Links for 1.29.09: Bob Dylan’s Super Bowl, new Sufjan tune, gold farming boom!
by Josh Kimball
*Cola: There’s a rumor going around that Bob Dylan will be pitching Pepsi with Will.i.am during the Super Bowl. I don’t know what it means, in the grand scheme of things. Probably more unemployment.
*Dudes: I don’t really know why I didn’t link earlier to the Silver Jews’ David Berman’s resignation and online Oedipal anger. But I didn’t. Now Mr. Berman comments on the music business: “The anti-major label discourse has taken focus off the weirdness of expecting musicians to follow an entrepreneur’s model. Self-aggrandizement. Postures of vanity. It all goes uncriticized.” Wait. Is he talking about me?
*Music: You can stream Sufjan Stevens’ new “You Are the Blood” here.
*Economy: I’ve linked to nearly dozens of depressing economics story by now, from unemployment news to the real estate market. I have never though, to this point, linked to an article about a World of Warcraft gold farming business (a company that deals in virtual goods) that has been purchased for $10M.
*Travel: Iron Maiden has opened a luxury hotel in London, Sanctum Soho.
*MP3 Players: Rumors of the Zune’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Well, maybe not “greatly,” but exaggerated. There will be new models out this year.
*Fitness: If you want to fit into those skinny jeans, use Cardio for Indie Rockers. Or just smoke a lot.
