Links for 7.5.10: I had a large chocolate malt yesterday.

*Liberty: Forensics on the Declaration of Independence show that at one point, Thomas Jefferson crossed out the word “subjects” and replaced it with the word “citizens.” Good lord, to have your drafts tracked like that…

*Taxonomy: What, if anything, is Big Bird? A slideshow. But so much more. And better. [harper’s]

*Art: David Grann, in The New Yorker, writes about Martin Kemp, an art authenticator who must guard against his own signature being faked. If you’ve never seen me sign anything, you might want to see it some day. It’s like a window into my soul.

*Pictures: For the finest in authentic mustache imagery, check out Greg Reynolds’ “Jesus Days.” [c-monster]

*Shoes: Zappos, get on this – Asics that come with wine, a leather wine bladder and a matching handkerchief. [notcot]

*Beverage: Booktails – a look at famous cocktails from literature, including Gatsby’s mint julep and Raymond Chandler’s gin gimlet. Related: Hemingway branded barware. See what I did there? [mktg]

*Obits: Bob Probert from NHL ’93 died. There are real humans we now know primarily through playing as their videogame avatars? [pop loser]

*Writing: Here’s a piece about Nabokov. In Berlin. I wonder what he was drinking. And what videogames he was playing. “He always supervised his readers on how not to misread him.” Yet I have no idea how I am supposed to read him still.

*Local: There is a confused pit bull wandering the neighborhood for the second day in a row, but animal control has the day off. FYI.

*Twitter: Read these four things.

Links for 10.9.09: Bombing the moon, bros, and DUDE we BOMBED the MOON!!!11

*Events: Kind of a big day today. We bombed the moon and Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. Also, WE BOMBED THE FUCK OUT OF THE MOON!!!

*Photography: Who wants to see pictures of flies peeing? As a kind of break from all the excitement. [eyeteeth]

*Literature: The Brocyclopedia – “‘Broseph’ was originally a term reserved for a bro or bra named “Joseph,” but the broseph has since evolved into an entirely separate sub-category of bro.” The funny thing is, this isn’t some McSweeney’s Dave Eggers bullshit. It’s cultural history. Or so I currently feel like claiming.

*Movies: David Wyatt writes in the Virginia Quarterly Review about “Star Wars and the Productions of Time.” On the Luke-Han continuum, I am indifferent and embarrassed to even know that much. [harper’s]

*Beer: Read this interview with the most interesting man in the world. The guy from the Dos Equis beer commercials.

*Recession: Guys with mustaches make more money than dudes with beards or clean-shaven men. I have been unable to sustain a mustache for longer than a half hour at any point in my life due to the overwhelming pressures of normal society. [huffpo]

*Local: Har Mar Superstar has to be one HELL of a partier, because he somehow has projects going. Still. And knows people. And WHAT? He’s writing a movie with Ellen Page. I will point out to those unfamiliar with this blog that Har Mar Mall is my local mall and say further that the pet store there smells like a dead body in a dumpster full of Chinese food that your co-worker made for lunch two days ago. Or worse.

*Punctuation: ;

*Today’s grade: Stay of execution. No American blog post fails today, since we bombed that God damn moon back to where it fucking belongs. SPACE.

Links for 8.29.08: Fuck That Band, Dylan’s harmonica, Guitar Hero movie?

*Law: Former Guns ‘N Roses’ guitarist Slash comments on the arrest of the guy who leaked some songs from “Chinese Democracy”: “I hope he rots in jail.” Ouch. [pee-fork]

*Videogames: Is there a Brett Ratner Guitar Hero movie in the works? If so, David Cross seems like a shoe-in to play the blue button. (I have no real idea what that even means.)

*Video: The IFC has recorded some discussions about the state of independent music in 2008; included among commentators are that nice lady from Idolator. And some other people. [more at IFC]

*Anger management: FuckThatBand.com. A music community for the haters. [metalsucks]

*Harmonica news: Bob Dylan has a line of Hohner harmonicas coming out.

*Off topic: Combining many of my favorite things, including facial hair, grooming and jewelry is the Mustache Comb Necklace. Also Mustache Comb Necklace is like the definition of word salad. [uncrate]

*Embarrassed and annoyed: OK, I was trying to read this one site (here often referred to as “Universal Music Group,” elsewhere referred to as “Stereogum”) at a Caribou Coffee in my neighborhood. (Yes, I still read Stereogum sometimes and I occasionally work from chain coffee stores.) Anyway, turns out Stereogum is totally dirty, I guess, because I got blocked.

Links for 8.9.08: Dylanomics, Bernie Mac dies, sexiest music vids…

*Dylan on the economy: The Freakonomics blog asks readers to use Bob Dylan lyrics to talk about current economic conditions.

*Wow: Bernie Mac died. He was 50.

*Race: Did L’Oreal lighten Beyonce’s skin in a recent ad? [buzzfeed]

*Sex and videos: Nerve collects the 50 Sexiest Music Videos. I have to admit that Billy Idol’s “Cradle of Love” made me feel weird when I was 16. And by “weird” I mean that I can’t say what I mean. GOODBYE. [fimoculous]

*Paternity: Clay Aiken is a father. Now I am really depressed.

*Facial hair: Everyone knows I’m more of a beard guy, but the HoustonPress compiles 5 of the top moustaches in rock. Jim Croce. [earfarm]

*Monster stretch: Could customer-service savants Zappos.com be getting into the music biz? Valleywag makes a leap based on some cryptic twitters. (If they do get into tunes, I have some Santogold I would like to return.)

*Personal update: On the plus side, I have not seen anyone LARPing yet today. (I really haven’t.)
