*Vizzies: Check out FlowingData’s list of the top 5 data visualizations of the year. Close readers of the listenerd will note that we’ve covered two of them previously – one Radiohead music video and one visualization using scrobbled Last.fm data.
*Lists: Stereogum’s list of its most-downloaded MP3s of the year surprised me. Marnie Stern at #1 and Yeasayer at #3. Huh.
*Business: Are the major labels trying to put together a Hulu for music? I think it’s funny that Hulu has made it to the point of being a model for something else, even though its grip is no doubt tenuous right now. And you’ll notice not much is trying to be a “Joost for _____” at this point.
*Advertising: Local Hmongs to Burger King (RE: their Burger Virgin campaign): We have seen hamburgers before.
*Words: The NY Times Ideas blog goes on the hunt for the top neologisms of 2008, suggesting staycation (a favorite, for better or worse, at my day job), edupunk and twi-hard.
*Blogs: I applied the Typealyzer, a supposed tool to analyze the personality type of a blogger, to the listenerd several weeks ago and the results were so far off, I didn’t even share them. I’ve seen many other sites link to Typealyzer since then, so I figured I’d revisit. I gotta tell you: I couldn’t come up with anything more wrong. Analysis says the author of the blog is an ESFP – entertaining, friendly, and conflict avoidant. Honestly, I’m trying to figure out a worse description of me than this one, but I almost can’t. Also, I’m bald.
*Trips: Soon I will be leaving this blog for a bit as I travel to the land of the WATERSMEET NIMRODS. I’ll bring something awesome back. (Beer, probably.)
